The New Year often offers a blank slate – an opportunity to make changes and get things right. If you´re among the many having a new year´s resolution like being healthier, travelling more, learning a new language or wanting to be more mindful in 2024, you´re certainly not alone.

With the new year comes the opportunity to improve ourselves as partners, colleagues, family members and friends.

But don´t forget, each day  brings those opportunities, allowing you to constantly start over again, to spread your wings, embrace a new perspective or simply just take a small step forward – you don´t need a “new year”, that´s not the one bringing the change – it´s you! 😉

In the hustle of modern life, it´s easy to get caught up in the daily grind, neglecting our physical and mental wellbeing. This often leads to stress, anxiety and negative vibrations impacting our day to day life. Embracing practices like Yoga and Mindfulness can effectively combat these issues.

Mindfulness involves being attentive to the present moment and our own needs, as well as the needs and well-being of those around us.

YOGA

Regardless of your fitness level and experience, incorporating Yoga into your daily routine can be a game-changer for both your physical and mental well-being. It offers balance and harmony, combined with breathwork, meditation and gentle postures, you can seamlessly incorporate Yoga into your daily routines. The key to successfully incorporating Yoga into your daily routine is consistency and finding a practice that suits your lifestyle.

Here are some tips to help you make yoga a regular part of your daily routine:

1.) Set a specific time and place for your practice: One of the key elements of making Yoga a regular part of your routine is to set aside a specific time and place for your practice. Whether it's first thing in the morning, during your lunch break, or before bed, choose a time that works best for you and make it a non-negotiable part of your daily schedule.

2.) Start small and be consistent: When incorporating yoga into your daily routine, it's important to start small and be consistent. You don't have to do an hour-long yoga class every day, just a few minutes of yoga practice can make a big difference. Start with just a few minutes of practice per day and gradually increase the duration as you become more comfortable with the practice.

3.) Find a style that resonates with you: Yoga comes in many different styles and forms, so it's important to find a style that resonates with you. Some popular styles include Hatha, Vinyasa, and Kundalini yoga. Each style offers a unique set of benefits and can help you achieve different goals, so be sure to explore different styles to find the one that best suits your needs.

4.) Practice with a partner or a group: Practicing yoga with a partner or a group can be a great way to stay motivated and on track. It can also be a fun way to explore different poses and styles of yoga.

SIMPLE YOGA POSES FOR BEGINNERS TO EASILY INCORPORATE YOGA

Child´s Pose

Begin by kneeling on the floor, then sit back on your heels and extend your arms forward, lowering your chest towards the ground. This comforting pose allows you to let go of any physical or mental tension, promoting a sense of calmness.

Tree Pose

Stand tall and shift your weight onto one leg, placing the sole of your foot on the inner ankle/shin/thigh of the opposite leg. This pose enhances balance and stability, helping you to stay grounded.

Downward Dog

Starting on your hands and knees, lift your hips upward, press your chest towards your thighs and keep a slight bent in your knees if you wish so. This pose stretches the back and shoulders, promoting relaxation and relief from stress-related tension.

Sun Salutation

If you´re new to Yoga, start off with 5 Sun Salutations. You can incorporate this routine at any time of the day – as a morning warm up for your body & mind, or a tension releaser before bed.

Corpse Pose (Savasana)

After a series of active poses, take time for Corpse Pose, where you lie flat on your back, arms at your sides and legs extended. This final relaxation pose is ideal for deep relaxation and rejuvenation, allowing you to let go of stresses and worries.

MEDITATION TECHNIQUES FOR MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness is about staying connected to the present moment. Meditation is an integral part of Yoga and can deepen its benefits. Here are some simple meditation techniques:

Mindful Breathing

One of the foundations of Yoga is breath control. You can practice these techniques anywhere, at any time. Focus on your breath, observing the natural flow of inhalation and exhalation.

Try the “4-7-8” breathing technique: Inhale through your nose for a count of 4, hold your breath for 7 and exhale slowly through your mouth for 8 counts. This simple practice can instantly calm your nervous system.

Mantra Meditation

Select a favorite word, phrase, prayer or fragment of a poem for meditation. Ideally, a mantra is composed of only a few words or syllables, so you can repeat it easily, without getting lost in a long phrase. Choose something uplifting that inspires you and engages your heart.

Guided Meditation

Listen to guided meditations, audio recordings that lead you through a meditation practice.

Remember it´s not about achieving perfection but about cultivating a deeper connection with yourself, both physically and mentally. Embrace the journey, savor the moments of peace, and witness the transformative power of Yoga and Mindfulness in your daily life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
